| "Going Green" is a buzzword in construction today. It signifies using construction methods that save energy, makes the most efficient use of renewable resources, and in the end produces less of a negative impact on the environment. While "green" construction practices cost more (industry estimates are +15%) we believe that it is worth it if we can make a difference.
Capital Self Storage is committed to construction practices that are environmentally friendly and produce a minimal carbon footprint. In the design of our storage buildings and our office/apt facilities we are always seeking new and innovative construction methods to achieve that goal.
Some examples of this are:
- "Recycling" of some properties instead of using up more farmland:
- Geo-thermal climate control facility built in 2006
- State of the art high efficiency heating/cooling systems
- High efficiency water heaters, and tankless water heaters
- Maximum building insulation to reduce energy use
- Light timers to reduce energy use and prevent lights from being left on
- Motion sensors on hallway lighting to light only necessary areas
- High efficiency fluorescent lighting that saves energy
- Smart design of water retention areas and direct infiltration to prevent soil erosion
- Artistic landscape designs and preservation of trees where possible
- In the office, using recyclable ink printer cartridges, and more bio-degradable paper products
- "Smart" thermostats that conserve energy by adjusting temperatures during off hours
Once again, our goal at Capital Self Storage is to produce a minimal impact on the environment with our operations. We hope that other Companies will follow suit, because together we can all make a big difference! |
